AP® Biology is a year long course taught at the same level as a first year college biology class.
This course adheres closely to the College Board standards for AP Biology and will prepare you to take the AP Biology
Exam. The two main goals of this course are to help you develop a framework for biology and to help you gain an deeper
understanding of science as a process. In this course, we will be developing higher level thinking in terms of biology
rather than just memorizing terms and facts.

Some major themes that we will study include:

  • Science as a Process
  • Evolution
  • Energy Transfer
  • Continuity and Change
  • Relationship of Structure to Function
  • Regulation
  • Interdependence in Nature
  • Science, Technology, and Society

In order to be successful in this course, you will need to purchase a biology textbook. You need to purchase the following book: Biology 7th Edition; Author: Campbell; ISBN 0-8053-7146-X

Exams
Each chapter has an exam at the end. The exam will be posted on the fifth day of instruction. This is to give you time to study for the exam before attempting it. It's format will vary but will generally include multiple choice, true/false, short response or essay (depending on the content).

Labs
AP Central has 12 suggested labs for AP Biology. Because of the costly equipment and the difficulty some students have getting lab time at a real school, we have incorporated these labs by combining hands-on home labs with online simulated labs. With combining these two methods, we have tried to give you similar experiences that you would have in a face to face classroom lab setting.
